Bio
I grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. I played all types of sports growing up. However, I really enjoyed baseball, wrestling, and golf. I graduated from high school in 2000. It took me a little over a year to decide that I wasn’t ready for college. As 9/11 passed I knew the path I wanted my life to take. I joined the United States Marine Corps in January of 2002. The Marine Corps sent me on two deployments to Iraq and helped to shape the person I am today. While in the Marine Corps I realized the importance of being fit. I did a lot of weight training mixed in with running three to five miles at a time. As my unit began its buildup for our second deployment to Iraq I began basing my workouts around functional movements (i.e., presses, deadlifts, powercleans, squats, etc.). I felt these movements mentally and physically prepared me not only for the training evolutions but also for actual missions I faced while in Iraq. Training with these movements was no question one of the smartest moves I could have made with my training. Once back in the states, a fellow Marine introduced me to Crossfit. He kept talking about a short, intense workout that was addictive. I checked out the website and couldn’t quite grasp what was going on. I felt the workouts were way too short and the weights were way too light. Once I began to understand the workouts I quickly learned never to underestimate a Crossfit workout. I began dabbling more and more into Crossfit. I was fascinated with the constant variation but most of all the actual sport of fitness. I finally got a Level 1 Certification and quickly began teaching the movements to anyone who would listen. I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in August 2009 with a degree in Business Economics. I spent a several months following graduation working at a few gyms in the Birmingham area. I met Forrest Walden in December of that year and began working at ITF in early 2010. I was skeptical at first about making a career in the fitness industry based on my previous experience. However, working at ITF put all my skepticism to the side. Not only have I met some extraordinary individuals, I have also witnessed first hand all of the lives that have been changed since ITF opened its doors. It didn’t take me long to realize that ITF is the place for me. I am definitely blessed to be a part of something this powerful. Just a few days ago I reflected on not only myself but also how powerful ITF has been in my life and hundreds of others. I can remember classes with only 1 client. Of course, at the time I was thinking this will never grow! Or my favorite, How Can I ever make this a career!?! Over the months classes grew quickly, from 1 to 20 athletes. That’s when the light came on and I realized Forrest was really on to something. 2011 marked a new beginning for me as Jim Cavale, Richard Martens, and I found ITF 280 as our new home. Once again, there were times where I trained 1 athlete. However, this time I had a new attitude. You can say that I bought in to the process. While at the 280 location I learned so much more regarding training clients as well as the business side of the company. With 2011 coming to an end I now have a new project of keeping ITF Homewood as the top Crossfit facility in the world. I’ve got a great staff ready to continue the prior hardwork of so many others. While the move is bittersweet, I look forward to the new task at hand. My overall goal is to make sure each and every client is receiving the very best in results based fitness! If myself or any of the coaches can give you a hand with anything just let me know!
