I wanted to thank you guys for giving quick and decisive feedback on the 2 question survey that I sent out by email yesterday. I was following up on my 21 Action Steps from the recent Tribe wide survey and the final thing on my list was to create a schedule that reflected hour long classes and then to let you guys vote on whether or not we should move in that direction.
The feedback was rapid (15 seconds surveys rock) and decisive. Overwhelmingly you do not want to change up the entire schedule in order to move the class format to 1 hour. That is our preference as well but wanted to make sure that you had a chance to vote on the proposed change.
I think you can see from the last two weeks of programming (in particular) that we have all the time we will ever need in the context of a 45 minute class to get some serious work done!
Luan and I are meeting on making our warm up’s more intentional in the skill building area and we are also adding a new strength class on M, W, and F starting next week at 1 pm. In addition there will also be a new Olympic lifting class on T, TH starting next week as well. In both of these classes we will also be addressing skill development.
Have a great 4th of July (Mendy’s birthday!) Tribe! Thank you so much for all the great feedback that you have given us over the last couple of weeks.
One more competition video from the vault. This one is from Oktoberfest in October of 2009. How many Tribe members and coaches can you spot in this video? This is a great one – take a few minutes to let it inspire you today!
Here are a few pictures from this weekend’s Tribal Wars at ITF 280! You can find the full photo album on our Iron Tribe Fitness Facebook page. Not a fan? Go like us now so that you can access them all. Also, follow us on Twitter while you’re at it @irontribe
Last year at this time all of the ITF staff headed over to Huntsville to compete in the CrossFit sectionals. Here is the video of the first mens sectional WOD.
Looking forward to competing this year with each of you over the next six weeks!
The Crossfit Games Competition season is upon us. Last year several of us made a trip to Huntsville, AL. and competed in the sectional competition for a shot at the Regional competition. The top three male and female competitors from the regional competition qualified for the Crossfit Games which were held at the Home Depot Center in L.A.
This year Crossfit HQ is taking a different approach to accommodate this burgeoning sport. This year HQ will hold a 6 week open sectional competition. Beginning on Tuesday March 15, HQ will issue the Workout of the Week. We, Iron Tribe Fitness, will perform the actual workout all day on Thursday. If you miss the opportunity to perform this WOD on Thursday in a class environment, you can make it up the very next day, Friday at3:45, at the Iron Tribe 280 location. Please be sure to let us know if you plan on doing the WOD at the 280 location. You can call us at 873-2135 or send me an email (tra@irontribefitness.com). The workout on Thursday will be treated as your typical workout of the day for all Iron Tribe Fitness athletes. Friday is more of a makeup day for those athletes that were unable to make it to the gym on Thursday. So, you’ve got several opportunities to knock out the sectional WOD: one full day on Thursday and one class time at the 280 location on Friday.
Now, there are several ways to qualify:
Individual Competition: Everyone will first sign up as an individual. Registration as an athlete can be done here. Keep in mind, there is a registration fee of $10. The top 60 male and top 60 female competitors in each region will move on to regional competition.
The Team Competition: Again, you must first register as an individual. Following registration, you must find your team, Iron Tribe Fitness, and submit a request to join the team. Once accepted you are officially a member of the team. Keep this in mind: following every workout it is up to you to submit your own time/score to the website. Iron Tribe Fitness will then verify your time/score. All times/scores must be submitted no later than the following Sunday, 7pm. Here is an example: I perform the WOD Thursday at the Homewood location. I must then submit my time/score to the Crossfit games site by 7PM CT the following Sunday. Iron Tribe Fitness will then verify your time/score.
An official team must have 3 men and 3 women. Competition will be tight as there are only 6 spots available. We could very well send more than one affiliate team to Regionals in Jacksonville, FL based on our performance in the open sectionals. The top 30 teams in each region will then move on to compete in the CrossFit Games to find the “Fittest Team”. How exciting! Keep in mind, we will not be picking the team. The team will be based only on performance during the 6 week open sectional. The top 3 men and top 3 women from the 6 week open sectional competition will represent Iron Tribe Fitness at the Regional Competition held in May.
The Masters Division (45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+): The first two Master divisions will do the same WODs as the regular competition. The last two will do a scaled version of the workout. For each age bracket, the top 20 men and the top 20 female worldwide will qualify for the Crossfit games, with no Regional competition.
1. Sign up as an individual and pay registration fee by Sunday March 20, 7PM CT.
2. If you wish to join the Iron Tribe affiliate team, find us on the website and ask to join.
3. Perform the workout on the designated day and time.
4. Submit your time/score to the Crossfit games website by Sunday 7PM CT – wait for us to verify.
I highly encourage anyone to give this a shot. Last year we put an affiliate team together and had a great time. If you’re interested call, email, or comment below. Remember sign up ASAP!!
BTW, if you’re still not amped about this, check out this video from last years Crossfit Games!
Forrest Walden has been squeezing in training while trying to open his affiliate, Iron Tribe Fitness. Training out his garage for the last 18 months he has made the leap to affiliate owner and he and his tribe are already setting new PR’s with the additional equipment and space to perform their wod’s. Forrest’s only goal is to hang with Kevin Lowe at this years sectionals! Kevin Beat Forrest by one point in the Region’s “Oktoberfest games” this year in Franklin Tennessee.
